Freddie Flintoff is set to embark on an epic 12 hour record-breaking endeavour as he takes on The BT Sport Relief Challenge: Flintoff’s Record Breakers - the third in a series of celebrity challenges sponsored by BT for Sport Relief 2012.
On Monday 19th March, the former England cricket captain will attempt to set 12 Guinness World Records in just 12 hours with the hope of raising cash for Sport Relief 2012. The records range from the bold and daring to the downright daft and will take all of Freddie’s guts and determination to see him through.
Among the long list of potential records, Freddie’s hoping to steal David Hasselhoff’s record for Highest reverse bungee jump, set in August 2011. To break ‘The Hoff’s’ record, Freddie will be catapulted at least 70 metres into the air. Other records Freddie is hoping to achieve include Most likes of a Facebook item in one hour, Most cricket balls faced in one minute, Fastest zorbing over 100 metres and Most hotdogs made in one minute. Get Freddie off the mark and sponsor him now at sportrelief.com/flintoff.
Freddie will need to keep up a fast pace to get through his long list of world record attempts in just 12 hours and he will be dashing around London between locations by the quickest means possible. Look out for Freddie as he appears on various TV and radio shows throughout the day to gain as much support and sponsorship for Flintoff’s Record Breakers as he can.
Freddie said: “I can’t wait to take on my record breaking BT challenge for Sport Relief. I’ve never held a Guinness World Records title before so achieving 12 within 12 hours would be an incredible achievement. I’m used to high pressured situations, especially during my cricket career – so hopefully I can hold my nerve and the nation will get behind me again and sponsor me.”
During his preparations for the challenge, Freddie has been trying to get to grips with records including Most lemons caught blindfolded in a minute - the record stands at 19 lemons although Freddie has so far only achieved a maximum of 12. Freddie claims to have already mastered the skills required for the Fastest time to eat three éclairs and Most party poppers popped in one minute – on Monday his skills will be put to the test for real.
All Freddie’s efforts will be overseen by a hawk-eyed adjudicator from Guinness World Records so he can get instant confirmation every time he breaks or sets a record.
For Sport Relief 2012 BT has pledged £1 million and is doing more than ever to help change lives by sponsoring The BT Sport Relief Challenges – a series of daring endurance feats. In September 2011, David Walliams kicked off the celebrity challenges with an epic splash when he completed The BT Sport Relief Challenge: Walliams vs The Thames. The comedian John Bishop took on the biggest physical test of his life, The BT Sport Relief Challenge: Bishop’s Week of Hell. Now former England cricket captain, Freddie Flintoff is attempting to break or set 12 Guinness World Records in just 12 hours.
Highlights from Freddie’s challenge will be shown on the Sport Relief night of TV on BBC One and BBC One HD on Friday 23rd March.
