Going on holiday should be a fun and exciting time, but it would seem that we are plagued with stresses and barriers to overcome.
A survey conducted by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, polled 1,435 women aged 18 and over and initially asked them what they think is the most stressful thing when planning a holiday. They were then asked to choose from a multiple list of answers.
The top five answers revealed were as follow:
Losing weight
Saving money
Packing
Shopping (clothes, toiletries, currency etc)
Choosing a destination
The respondents who declared that losing weight was the most stressful thing amongst the others when planning a holiday were then asked to specify why they felt that way. Just over a third stated that they wanted to ‘look good’ on their holiday pictures whilst a fifth declared ‘feeling pressured by their boyfriend’ to lose a certain amount of weight. 16% said they wanted to do so because they knew they’d put weight on during their holiday.
A further 7 per cent stated that they wanted to ‘fit’ into their holiday clothes whilst just under a tenth said that they felt pressured by celebrity pictures they see in magazines and 13 per cent declared that they ‘just want to look good’.
Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes commented on the findings:
“It’s quite surprising to see just how much pressure people put on themselves to lose weight prior to a holiday. It should be a time to relax for most people, but it seems that in order to do so, many feel they have to get into shape beforehand.”
