Thinking about your holiday this summer and how you're not yet comfortable enough to get into your bikini, well it's time to start thinking about it.
Experts are recommending that Brits planning to get their bodies in swimsuit shape in time for the most popular summer holiday getaway week should start their diet today.
This allows dieters sufficient time to lose weight the healthy and sensibile way over a 12-week period, so by the time schools start to break up and the holiday period is in full swing, dieters will have achieved their summer weight loss goals.
50 per cent of the population start a diet in preparation for their holiday, according to research by XLS-Medical, so the summer diet countdown is officially on.
Dr Matt Capehorn, Clinical Director at the National Obesity Forum, comments: “Starting a diet now gives dieters a reasonable timeframe in which to lose weight steadily for their summer holidays.
"It’s important not to fall into the trap of last minute crash dieting, which is often unsuccessful and can play havoc with blood sugar levels and appetite cravings. As a result, dieters can end up gaining weight as they struggle to cope with changes brought on by such extreme measures. Undertaking a healthy eating and exercise plan now with a realistic goal in mind will ensure dieters are not only looking good but feeling great this summer.”
Juliet Oosthuysen, spokesperson for XLS-Medical, says: “As a guide, dieters should aim to lose around one to two pounds each week. Research shows that dieters are far more likely to maintain a healthy weight long term at this rate.”
Leading UK Dietitian Helen Bond and Consultant Dietitian to the ‘123 hello me’ programme, the online support programme for XLS-Medical, comments: “There are lots of simple things you can do to kick start your weight loss. You don't need to make drastic changes, just a few small steps can make a real difference such as keeping hydrated, especially when the weather is heating up. We often think we are hungry we are actually thirsty and it is well recognised that being hydrated helps suppress appetite and keeps you healthy. Drinking water at mealtimes can also help you eat less, by swelling the food you eat and stimulating receptors in the brain to acknowledge that you have had enough. ”
