Women are focusing on the wrong thing when attempting to lose weight.
New research has revealed that women are overlooking the importance of protein and focusing on fat and carbohydrates when they begin the battle of the bulge.
The survey by Maxitone, the UK’s leading lifestyle nutrition brand for active women, revealed that only one in ten women across the UK are happy and confident about their body.
Protein is an important part of our daily diet and also essential for any workout regime as it allows the body to build, replenish and repair muscle after exercise.
A healthy diet made up of protein, carbohydrates and fats is the basis for effective weight management but the survey shows that only 7 per cent of women were aware of how much protein their body needs on a daily basis. Fifteen per cent thought they could get their daily dose from vegetables, whilst 31 per cent thought protein was made from meat.
Dr Adam Carey says: “The research is incredibly worrying, women in the UK don’t seem to know where they can get protein from. This knowledge gap among women needs addressing if we are to create a long term culture of healthy eating and living in the UK.”
The survey also revealed that whilst 34 per cent of women are constantly looking to lose weight, methods and efforts are somewhat lacking; with 12 per cent of women in the UK admitting to never exercising and 11 per cent skipping breakfast on their days off.
It is therefore unsurprising that 87 per cent of women in the UK have never tried a protein shake, with 23 per cent completely unaware of what they are.
