Just 10 per cent of adults in England and Wales have perfect oral health care, according to new research.
The East of England came out on top with the brightest, healthiest and most desirable smiles.
The Best Smile Map was created using results of research into 13,000 adults' dental care habits; it reveals the top oral health regions and was created by Colgate as part of its ambition to create a nation of Healthy Smiles.
When it comes to oral care routines, those living in the South Central region of the UK get top marks with nearly 80 per cent brushing twice a day. This compares to over a quarter of people in the North East and the Midlands brushing jsut once a day and 6 per cent of people living in Yorkshire brushing less than once a day, if at all.
The research also showed that women tend to adopt better oral care routines than men.
Throughout Oral Health Month, Dental Hygienists will tour the country encouraging people to sign up to the Healthy Mouth Mission, as well as offering free oral care advice. Dental nurses will be visiting selected schools giving talks to pupils to encourage positive oral health habits from an early age. Over 8,500 Dental practises will also be on board, supplying patients with samples and information.
