The purpose of footwear is to protect your feet from harm and weather, but the majority of people buy shoes based on how they look, rather than how they perform.
Women might think twice though if they knew these fascinating facts.
A study undertaken by the University of Arizona revealed that 420,000 units of bacteria were found on the outside of shoes. Of that bacteria, 27% was the deadly E. Coli virus, and 96% indicated contact with faecal material (both human and animal).
The worrying fact is that 99% of bacteria can be transmitted to carpet and tiles within your home.
WedgeWelly advise that shoes should be removed at the door to prevent this from happening, and when shopping for winter footwear, women should consider rubber boots as they are 100% waterproof (there’s a real risk of bacteria and germs containing faecal material, spreading around your home via wet feet).

WedgeWelly fast became famous following its successful pitch on the hit TV programme Dragons’ Den. Theo Paphitis invested in the business and owns 25% of the company.
Theo Paphitis said: “The WedgeWelly is a very exciting product, it’s been designed to be both practical and stylish. It elevates the foot by 1½ inches, however gives the illusion of a higher, more glamorous looking heel”.
