Don’t Forget Some Toe TLC This Winter

Don’t Forget Some Toe TLC This Winter

As you prepare to tuck your feet away for the cold season, it doesn’t mean they don’t still deserve some TLC. In fact they deserve the same amount of attention, so that when spring comes they’re ready to bloom.

Your feet may be hidden in tights & boots during the day, but no doubt they’ll make an appearance in the evening sporting your best new heels as the party season approaches. These can be painful enough after a long night - without the added aggravation of foot problems such as athlete’s foot.

Athlete’s foot? But I’m not the sporty type...

Contrary to its name, athlete’s foot doesn’t just affect sporty types. It’s a very common problem that affects one in four people. The infection is highly contagious and can spread through direct and indirect contact.

Public spaces such as gym toilets and changing rooms are the perfect places for fungal infections to fester, so be prepared!
How Do I Know I Have It?

Symptoms include:

- Itchy feet, especially between the toes

- Burning sensation and inflammation

- Itchy, peeling skin between toes

- Cracked skin

- Dry and flaky soles of feet

- Smelly feet (caused by bacteria)

- Blisters

If you have noticed any of the above you may have athlete’s foot. But don’t despair it’s easy to treat...

Canesten’s Bifonazole Once Daily Cream* (RRP £5.49) only needs to be applied once a day and works within two to three weeks.

The unique active ingredient bifonazole penetrates deeply into the skin and keeps working for 36-48 hours. It is recommended to treat all types of athlete’s foot without inflammation.

Just remember, a little bit of care goes a long way when it comes to your feet! Here are a few simple steps to keep your feet fabulous and problems like athlete’s foot at bay...

- Wear flip-flops or sandals in public changing rooms

- After you have a bath or shower, dry your feet carefully, especially between your toes

- Put on clean socks every day

- Rotate your shoes, especially gym shoes. Don't wear the same pair every day

- Always take off sweaty sports shoes once you have finished using them. If your shoes are sweaty or wet, let them dry out before you put them on again

- Take your shoes off at home and let your feet 'breathe'

- Wear sandals when you can

- Wear cotton, silk, or wool socks rather than synthetic (nylon) ones

- Wear shoes made of leather or canvas. These let your feet breathe more than plastic shoes
