Enjoy a healthy breakfast every day of the week

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, as it literally breaks the fast you’ve had through the night. You need something that is going provide plenty of nutrition and give you energy to survive the morning.

And new research reveals more than a third of teenagers in the UK are consuming unhealthy breakfasts of fried foods, energy drinks and calorific snacks.

According to the research, conducted by the ‘make mine Milk’ campaign and leading charity BeatBullying, the top five bad breakfasts are: Fry-ups, crisps, chocolate bars/sweets, cakes/biscuits and energy drinks.

The bad breakfast habits don’t end there, either. According to the research results, two fifths of teens admitted to skipping breakfast altogether in a bid to lose weight.

Speaking about this issue, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, an 11-time Paralympic champion, said: "As a former athlete and mum to an 11 year old daughter I know just how important a healthy diet is. You are what you eat and that all starts every morning with a well-balanced breakfast. I’ve seen some schools successfully set up breakfast clubs to help combat the problem of teenagers not eating properly – it would be great if this could be standard practice across the country.”

To ensure yourself and your teenager get a healthy and nutritious start to the day, here are 7 healthy breakfast ideas.
