Feeling energetic all of the time is something that we’re not very used to – especially when we have so many things draining our energy all of the time.
But there are some small, simple steps to help boost your energy levels and will leave you feeling ready for anything.
Energy and wellbeing expert, Oliver Gray, explained at the Vitality Show there are 10 different things that you can do to boost your energy levels.
Eat a light evening meal
Avoid heavy carbs and food in the evening and make sure your plate is filled with protein and colourful vegetables. This helps to aid digestion and improves sleep.
Ditch technology an hour before bed
Relax before you go to sleep, an hour before you go to sleep ditch all technology including your TV, phone, laptop. Using technology stimulates the nervous system, so not using it will help calm the nervous system and wind you down for bed.
Early to bed, early to rise
It’s important that you go to bed early because your body gets the best recovery between 10.30pm and 1.30am.
20 minutes of morning movement
It’s important that you move around to increase your energy levels and doing it in the morning means you can’t find an excuse later on in the day to avoid it. Yoga, walk, cycle, a little bit of movement will make all the difference.
A cup of green tea and a healthy breakfast
Green tea provides a whole host of healthy benefits so try and get into the habit of drinking a cup every morning. Things to consider for breakfast include, seeds, berries, cinnamon, almond milk, amaranth pops.
Keep super hydrated throughout the day
Avoid caffeinated drinks to keep you hydrated throughout the day, things like herbal teas and water are the best things.
Maximise food energy
It’s important that you combine foods to obtain the maximum energy available. Combine slow release carbs and protein. And it’s important that eat foods rich in the good fats daily.
The best foods:
Carbohydrates: Vegetables, fruits, oats, oatcakes, sweet potato and chickpeas
Protein: Chicken, turkey, fish, lentils, beans, pulses and eggs
Fats: Fish, nuts, seeds, olive oil, avocado, olives
Oliver insists that we all eat 10 almonds every day.
One thing at a time
Ditch the multi-tasking – focus on one thing at a time and work in 60 to 90 minute intervals before you take a little break and carry on with your task.
Play to your strengths
It’s important that you use your unique abilities and the things you are good at; as these will help to boost confidence too.
Diarise your high energy people
The people you love energise you – see them each week and re-energise yourself.
