Dieters, across the country are preparing to spring into their summer weight loss plans this Monday, inspired by the extra hour of daylight, marking not only the start of British Summer Time, but British Slimming Time.
It may only be March, and the reality of bikinis and exposed flesh a far off thought, but research by Sainsburysdiets.co.uk reveals the clocks going forward will inspire 1 in 3 (41%) to kick start a summer diet.
With nearly half of Brits planning on getting trim for summer, 57% aim to be in shape by the second bank holiday weekend, the traditional start of the BBQ season.
“With over half of the respondents wanting to achieve their goal weight within an 8 week period, Monday 28th March looks like it could be D-Day; the ideal day for slimmers across the country to start their diet” says Sainsbury’s nutritionist Charlie Parker.
Charlie Parker continues; “The increase in daylight hours this Sunday could provide that extra bit of motivation for slimmers beginning the journey towards their perfect summer body.
"When the sun comes out we begin to stop craving those stodgy winter comfort foods, and are more interested in lighter meals like nutritious green salads and summer fruits.
"The longer days, better weather and desire for lighter meals do a great deal in helping us create and sustain healthier eating patterns in the run up to summer.”
