In mid 2008 Swedish tech company Tonium Laboratories, are to release Pacemaker, the world’s first professional pocket-sized DJ system. Designed with the aim of bringing people closer to their music and allowing them to creatively interact with their whole music collection, Pacemaker will retail at £400 + VAT and is the first of its kind anywhere in the world.
So how can Pacemaker lay claim to the title ‘the most versatile music player in the world’ when there are so many high profile competitors? Imagine walking into a party with every record you own in your pocket, stored on the huge 120GB Pacemaker hard drive, plugging into the nearest sound system and DJ’ing like a professional.
Or, the next time you’re on a bus or train, instead of simply listening to your music you can completely interact with it, creating mixes of your favourite tunes, beat matching and using effects, filters, loops and more; the possibilities are limitless. Pacemaker is bringing bedroom DJ’ing to the masses.
Pacemaker allows two tracks to be played simultaneously and boasts all the functionality of a full, professional DJ set up. The intelligent software will automatically work out the BPMs (beats per minute) of each of your tracks, enabling you to quickly learn to match the beats between two tracks and create a DJ mix.
You don’t have to be a fan of dance music; Pacemaker will allow you to create mixes of any musical style, giving you the ability to seamlessly mix between tracks and to produce new sounds. You can go as far as your imagination will take you.
Pacemaker works with both PC and MAC and supports all the major audio formats including MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG and FLAC files. The sound quality of a Pacemaker is more than 20 times better than an average iPod! As a music player alone, Pacemaker is top of the range; add in the DJ functionality and you have the definition of versatile.
