Honey Ryder - Worlds Away
Honey Ryder return from a busy summer of festivals and international promotion with their 3rd single Worlds Away on October 29, released on Oceanic / EMI.
Worlds Away was written by Lindsay O'Mahony and Jason Huxley from the band, along with Tommy Lee James (Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift) whilst in Nashville. The band were introduced to Tommy Lee by legendary producer Paul Worley (Lady Antebellum, Dixie Chicks), and the track was written and recorded in one day.
'The song was written in about 4 hours at the offices of the late Barbara Orbison', recalls Lindsay, 'and then recorded in one take in the evening at Ocean Way in Nashville. Probably the fastest track we've ever done.'
The orchestra was recorded about 2 months later, when the band had a call from the manager at Ocean Way asking if they wanted to have a string arrangement written and then recorded - for free - as part of a promotion that the studio's owners had organised. Obviously the band jumped at the chance, and arranger Carl Marsh (REM, Shania Twain) set to work on the cinematic score that accompanies the track.
'I remember hearing the score for the first time and feeling quite emotional' says Jason. 'It really is a moving piece of music, and when the players recorded it in Nashville it was a very special moment. It's a shame we couldn't be there in person, but we actually watched them record it via Skype!'
'The song is about a couple who have lost their way' explains Lindsay. 'The girl is lying in bed next to someone she feels she hardly knows anymore and she’s wondering how they can re-connect again. She’s convinced the love is still there but buried deep. Despite feeling lost she feels hopeful that they have a relationship worth salvaging.'
BBC Radio 2 have playlisted both singles from the band's album 'Marley's Chains' - title track Marley's Chains and 2nd single You Can't Say That, and the band have recently appeared on Wogan's weekend Radio 2 show (Sunday 16th September). The album was Smooth Radio Album of the Week.
