Originally published online via Twitter @NYerFiction, Jennifer Egan’s first new fiction since the phenomenal success of A Visit From the Goon Squad is a taut, compulsive work of unrelenting genius.
America in the near future. A young female spy is undercover. Her mission: to infiltrate the life of a suspected terrorist by means of total seduction.
Success depends on her ability to hide in plain sight - to be seen and unseen, in total control of her identity. She logs her thoughts.
Egan uses the constraint imposed by a single Twitter post - 140-characters or less - to reflect and harness the particular constraints her protagonist must navigate. The result is like a hand at the throat - wholly intimate and exquisitely controlled and breathtaking.
Jennifer Egan was born in Chicago and raised in San Francisco. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and St John’s College, Cambridge.
She is the author of four novels, The Invisible Circus, Look at Me, a finalist for the National Book Award, The Keep, and the bestselling, A Visit from the Goon Squad which won the Pulitzer Prize, and a collection of short stories, Emerald City.
She has published short fiction for the New Yorker, Harper’s, McSweeney’s and Ploughshares, among others, and her journalism appears frequently in the New York Times Magazine.
