B is for Ballroom

B is for Ballroom

Do you know your Botafago from your Volta Cross? Ever wondered how the Foxtrot got its name? Why is the Quick Step so quick? What’s the significance of the bull in the Paso Doble? What’s with all the sequins, spangles and formal attire? And why are some lifts deemed illegal by the judges?

If you’re sitting at home watching dance on TV holding your home-made paddles, what should the judges really be looking for? Why do they seem to be so obsessed with the competitors’ hands and arms when surely it’s their feet they should be looking at?

If you don’t know the answers to most of these questions but fancy yourself as something of an armchair aficionado, B is for Ballroom is for you. Written by the ballroom star who turns the unlikeliest of celebrities into dancing queens, Anton unlocks the secrets of Ballroom so that you can really understand what it’s all about.

From costumes to choreography, perfect holds to fancy footwork, illegal lifts to technique, individual dances to fabulous stars, let Anton whisk you off your feet into this wonderful world and discover everything you ever needed to know without ever having to don your dancing shoes.

"Every woman should have half an hour with Anton du Beke." Lesley Garrett.

Anton du Beke is one of the most instantly recognisable professional male dancers today. When Anton was 14 years old he was sent by his mother to collect his sister from a dance class.

He was instantly mesmerized, and not just by the group of girls but by the routines, the technique and the holds. It was a moment from which he would never look back.

Since then Anton has collected titles and awards in the UK and worldwide and has become a leading name on the circuit.

He first appeared as a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing nine years ago and has performed in every series since.
