The 52-year-old professional skateboarder became a household name after the release of the video game series, 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater', and will appear in video game form once again in 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2', which is a remaster of the first two games in the series.
The franchise originally ran for four titles between 1999 and 2002, but was revived in 2015 for a much-maligned 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5'.
And whilst the skateboarder himself acknowledged the "missteps" the games had made in the past, he's sure the remasters of the classic titles will right those wrongs.
He said: "We might have had a few missteps doing games in the past, but I think this will really turn the tide. It does take you back to that time. It does take you back to that feeling. And I hope that people embrace it."
Tony also gushed over "how good" the quality of the remastering is, as he said fans "don't really realise how truly low resolution" the originals are.
He added: "When people think of the first games, they have a certain nostalgic view of it. They don't really realise how truly low resolution it was. I truly believe that the hardcore fans of our original series are going to be satisfied and probably overwhelmed by how good this is."
The sports star revealed it was Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick who pitched the idea of the remasters to him, and while he was hesitant at first, he eventually agreed after witnessing the success of other recent remasters, including the 'Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy' and the 'Spyro Reignited Trilogy'.
Speaking to IGN, Tony said: "We've been having talks over the years of the potential of it, and finally, I literally sat down with Bobby Kotick. We were actually talking about other things in regards to my charity, and he just casually threw out, 'Why don't we remake THPS?' And I said, 'You don't understand how many people ask me that.' And he said, 'Well, you know, we've had success with a couple of other remasters, so why don't we think about it.' "
'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2' is being developed by Vicarious Visions, and will be released in September for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
