The iconic console was first released in the late 1980s but has been revived by the technology giant as two-player home console - and Sega has even thrown in as many as 80 pre-loaded games.

The original incarnation of the Mega Drive was a 16-bit console that became synonymous with the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' game and sold over 40 million units worldwide.

However, the revived version is considerably better, as it allows gamers to play using wireless controllers on a portable 3.20-inch screen, meaning you're free to take it with you wherever you like.

The console features a host of classic games and is being available to consumers from October.

The announcement comes shortly after Nintendo revealed the release date, specifications and full list of games for the NES Classic Edition.

The Nintendo Entertainment System 8-bit console was originally released in 1983 and revolutionised the home entertainment market.

Nintendo subsequently confirmed the console will be available to buy from November 11 and will come pre-loaded with 30 classic games, including 'Donkey Kong', 'Mega Man II', 'The Legend of Zelda' 'Metroid' and 'Punch-Out' along with a classic controller.

A spokeswoman for Nintendo said: "The Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System comes packaged with an HDMI cable, a USB cable for powering the system, and one Nintendo Classic Mini: NES Controller.

"And whether it's rediscovering an old favourite or experiencing the joy of NES for the first time, the fantastic collection of NES classics included with each and every system should have something for all players."
