Earlier this month, the iconic Japanese game developer asked players to vote for the classic titles they miss the most and the tactical fantasy role playing game, created in 1996, came in first place followed closely by 'Jet Set Radio' and 'Virtual On'.

Open-world, action-adventure RPG 'Shenmue' nabbed the fourth spot on the list, while 'Virtua Fighter' - widely recognized as the first 3D fighting game when it was released in 1993 - made up the top five.

'Panzer Dragoon', 'Shining Force', 'Skies of Arcadia', Mega Drive beat 'em up classic 'Streets of Rage' and ground-breaking flying title 'NiGHTS into Dreams' - which was a cult classic on the Saturn console - complete the top 10 list of titles Sega fans are keen to see make a comeback.

Sega of Japan specifically asked fans to choose a pre-2014 franchise they would most like to see revived and speculators believe the company - which has just unveiled 'Daytona 3 Championship USA,' a new coin-op racer inspired by the acclaimed 1993 stock car simulation 'Daytona USA' - carried out the research exercise to kick-start a wider revival project.

However, the company is yet to confirm why they released the poll but it is known are currently working on 'Shenmue III' for Sony's PlayStation 4.
