'Rust' developer Facepunch has lost "a large amount of data" in a fire at the OVH Datacenter in Strasbourg.
This week, 25 of of the Steam game's EU servers were offline following the blaze, which destroyed one of the facility's buildings and damaged another, while all staff were evacuated with no reported injuries.
In an initial tweet, the 'Rust' team said: "We are aware that some of our EU servers are down at the moment. Technicians at the datacenter are investigating the issue".
They later added: "25 of our EU servers remain offline due to a fire at OVH Datacenter in the early hours of this morning.
"Unfortunately, the fire destroyed SBG-2 building.
"We're expecting a large amount of data loss across the affected servers. We'll share more news when we can."
In a later update, they revealed the extent of the damage and what it meant for gamers.
The team wrote: "We've confirmed a total loss of the affected EU servers during the OVH data centre fire.
"We're now exploring replacing the affected servers. Data will be unable to be restored."
Over the next few hours, severs were brought back online, and the developer went on to explain what exactly had been lost.
They added: "For clarity: When we referred to 'data' in prior Tweets today the data lost in question was only player progression on 25 servers."
