‘PUBG’’s original Erangel map will make a return to the game to give players a feeling of nostalgia
Krafton recently revealed that the popular battle royale game will be bringing back the popular map for two weeks only which will include graphics and an overall user experience that will evoke the early access days of the game.
The map will return on May 14 along with the update 29.2 for battle royale. The classic features included in the map are said to be “designed to evoke nostalgia for players who remember the early access days”.
Since its release in March 2017, the game has experienced huge success and even reached a record concurrent player peak on Steam of 3,257,248 which is a feat no other game has matched since. To this day, it is still one of the most popular games on Steam surpassed only by Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2, both developed by Valve.
Krafton has stated that the Erangel Classic will give players the opportunity to experience the old-school feel of the original map combined with modern gameplay features.
The official blurb from the publisher reads: “Upon entering Erangel Classic, players will find that benches have returned, with weapons placed on them across the starting island. The gunplay balance has also been adjusted to capture the feel of the early days, with the recoil of all weapons, except for a few, being reduced. Players can also find the Tommy Gun in the Care Package, just like in the old days. Additionally, players will be able to experience foggy and rainy weather, as well as graphics, world map, and a minimap that call back to the original PUBG: Battlegrounds release.”
For the brief period of time that Erangel Classic will be available, it will be featured in Normal Match and will replace the current Erangel map. On PC, it will be available from 14 May to 28 May, and on consoles from 23 May to June 6.
