Game Pass is the concept that "differentiates" the Xbox from rival consoles.

That is according to Phil Spencer, the executive vice-president of Gaming at Microsoft, who has hailed the impact of the video game subscription service, suggesting it makes the Xbox brand standout from its rivals.

He said: "Game Pass is the thing that I really think differentiates our console platform right now. We've got 15 million subscribers, doing incredibly well, a great collection of games from so many partners."

Spencer is a firm believer in the Game Pass concept, and is confident it will continue to drive Microsoft's success in the gaming sphere.

He told GameSpot: "Our launch games go in day and date. So like 'Gears Tactics', these games people haven't played before can go play. So I feel really, really good about the investment in Game Pass, and how that stands up against any competitive offering that's out there."

Despite this, Spencer has praised Sony's PlayStation 5 console, which has just been released.

He said: "I think Sony has done a really nice job with the PlayStation 5.

"They're doing something different than us, which is fine. I think it's good that you have different platforms doing different things."
