Nintendo has announced it is releasing the NES Classic Mini.
Following on from the ballistic response to the company's new smartphone game 'Pokemon Go' the Japanese gaming giant has announced a new version of their classic Nintendo Entertainment System 8-bit console which was released in 1983 and revolutionised home entertainment.
The NES Classic Mini will be a mini replica of the original and will include 30 pre-loaded classic NES titles.
Games built-in to the gadget include 'Super Mario Brothers', 'The Legend of Zelda', 'Metroid', Donkey Kong', 'PAC-MAN' and 'Kirby's Adventure'.
Like modern consoles, the NES: Classic Edition connects to your TV via a HDMI port and also comes with the classic NES pad.
Also, when connected to a Wii Remote controller, the NES Classic Controller can also be used to play Virtual Console NES games on a Wii U or Wii system.
Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime explained Nintendo's motivation for releasing the new product as a means for younger generations to experience classic games in an authentic way, and for original fans to re-visit much loved gaming memories.
Reggie said: "We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo's original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place.
"The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition is ideal for anyone who remembers playing the NES, or who wants to pass on those nostalgic memories to the next generation of gamers."
The announcement is likely to add to Nintendo's share price that has already seen a massive increase since the 'Pokemon Go' launch.
The NES: Classic Edition will be released in November.
