Gamers have been treated to some incredible titles over the past 12 months, with video games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate making a splash. Now though we're looking ahead to 2019, and it looks to be as packed full of incredible releases as the last year. Here are our top video game picks of 2019...
Resident Evil 2 - January 25, 2019 (Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Completely rebuilt from the ground up, Capcom are promising a "deeper narrative" with their genre-defining survival horror masterpiece, Resident Evil 2.
Packed full of terrifying gameplay, challenging puzzles and intense exploration, players will step into the shoes of rookie officer Leon Kennedy during his first day working in the Raccoon City Police Department. Let's just say it's not going to be at all what he expected...
Kingdom Hearts III - January 29, 2019 (PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Now that we finally have a solid release date for Kingdom Hearts III, we can start to get excited about seeing exactly how the story will all be tied up.
This time round, Sora, Donald, Goofy and the gang will be exploring more Disney worlds that they've not yet been a part of, including that of Frozen and Tangled!
Whilst it may look like a light-hearted affair however, this is one of the darkest and most beautiful stories a video game has ever told. Let's hope the new instalment does the previous releases justice.
Far Cry: New Dawn - February 15, 2019 (Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Ubisoft are showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to their Far Cry series, and this time round are offering up a sequel to the chaotic events of Far Cry 5 with New Dawn.
All-new villains are expected to step into the spotlight, whilst players will once more fight to liberate those oppressed in a world that has turned against them.
New Dawn looks to be the most colourful entry into the series yet, and we can't wait to get our hands on a controller and jump right in.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy - February 21, 2019 (Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
A personal anecdote here: when I was young, I absolutely adored the original Phoenix Wright games. I would play them and expect to become an attorney just like Mr. Wright himself when I was older, defending innocent clients in the United States. Obviously that never happened, but it just goes to show how brilliant the Ace Attorney trilogy really is.
Now, I and millions of others will get the chance to experience the trilogy all over again on the world's leading consoles. It's going to be incredible!
Anthem - February 22, 2019 (Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Without a season pass or paid post-launch DLC, Anthem is already winning over fans. The online multiplayer game will challenge players to jump into the shoes of one of many different roles, forming a team with friends or gamers online to tackle some of the world's most dangerous threats.
Where some would say Destiny has failed, Anthem looks set to fill in the gaps with gaming excellence.
Devil May Cry 5 - March 8, 2019 (Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Set several years after Devil May Cry 4, the fifth DMC game will feature the return of playable characters Dante and Nero, as well as an all-new playable character simply called 'V'.
Stylish and jam-packed with action sequences, this could be one of the most addictive games of 2019 and an early contender for Game of the Year.
Tom Clancy's The Division 2 - March 15, 2019 (Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Taking place seven months after the original game, The Division 2 will see players jump into the role of civilians fighting against marauders who are attempting to build a new world in their murderous vision.
Players will be able to join up with their friends once again, and raids will allow up to eight people to jump into the action at once.
Mortal Kombat 11 - April 23, 2019 (Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Just before the year was out, we finally got news that Mortal Kombat 11 was on the way, with a release date set for sooner than any of us could have wished for!
A grisly and incredibly violent trailer promised that we would be getting more of the same when it comes to narrative and gameplay, but for the first time, players will be able to create their own Kombatant to take on some of the universe's best fighters.
Days Gone - April 26, 2019 (PlayStation 4)
An ever-changing release date now finally seems secure, and PS4 gamers will finally be able to get their hands on Days Gone in late April.
Zombie games have been done more times than we'd like to count, but this looks like it could push its way through the crowd and be a true standout of the genre.
Rage 2 - May 14, 2019 (Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Bethesda's showcase piece of 2019 looks to be Rage 2 (as well as continuing to work on Fallout 76), in a sequel to the 2010 original.
The first-person shooter sees players take control of Walker; a ranger who is free to explore a post-apocalyptic open world and fight against enemies with a variety of different tools and firearms.
Both new and existing characters will be involved in the game's narrative, which takes place 30 years after the original.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled - TBC (Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
We finally got news of a remastered version of Crash Team Racing before the year was out, and with the announcement that online competitive play would be an integral part of the title, we were more excited than ever before.
Bringing the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy back with a gorgeous remaster proved to be a mighty success, so we cannot wait to see just how well this nostalgic diamond does when it hits the shelves.
Animal Crossing - TBC (Nintendo Switch)
Nintendo Switch owners have been crying out for an Animal Crossing game on the platform for some time. Next year they'll get their wish.
Details are scarce, but we imagine that the gameplay will be similar to the many AC releases of the past. If something's not broke, don't fix it! We can't wait to see who'll be our neighbours when we move into a new town courtesy of Tom Nook all over again...
Gears 5 - TBC (Windows, Xbox One)
Gears gamers didn't think they'd get another instalment to the franchise after the events of Gears of War 4, but they will indeed be treated to what promises to be another incredible title.
Here, the storyline will focus on Laura Bailey's character Kait Diaz, an Outsider of Locust descent. Players will control Kait and must uncover the origins of the Locust and Kait's family. JD Fenix, his friend Delmont Walker and JD's father Marcus Fenix all return.
Luigi's Mansion 3 - TBC (Nintendo Switch)
The first two Luigi's Mansions games were some of the most addictive ever offered up by Nintendo. Fans have been calling out for a third entry to the series for some time, and that's exactly what they'll be getting in 2019.
With a unique title teased, it's going to be interesting to see in which direction the game goes when it does eventually hit shelves. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long!
MediEvil - TBC (PlayStation 4)
Remade from the ground up, MediEvil may or may not take narrative directions from the original trilogy; it's not something that has yet been revealed! In fact, details are so scarce that we haven't got much else to say, other than we're super excited to jump in!
Minecraft: Dungeons - TBC (Windows, Mac)
Supporting up to four players in any one session, Minecraft: Dungeons is an upcoming RPG developed by Mojang AB that will feature new weapons, items and mobs as well as exciting environments to explore, and an overarching quest.
Other than Minecraft Story Mode (we don't talk about THAT...), this is the first time a proper narrative will be given to the Minecraft world.
Untitled Pokémon game - TBC (Nintendo Switch)
This year we've had Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee release on Nintendo Switch, but next year there's supposed to be an entirely new generation of Pokémon coming to the console in an all-new game!
No major details have been given, but we imagine it'll be an immediate hit.
Skull & Bones - TBC (Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Piracy and naval warfare are at the centre of Skull & Bones; a tactical action game set in an open world environment and played from a third-person perspective.
Whether you want to tackle the single-player campaign, or bring together some friends for action with up to six gamers, this could be one of the most complicated yet competitive titles of 2019.
Yoshi's Crafted World - TBC (Nintendo Switch)
We round things off with another upcoming title for the Nintendo Switch. Our favourite little green dinosaur Yoshi is making a comeback with what we're sure will be an endearing and charming platformer. Bring on the fun!
