The new 'Tomb Raider' movie will be based on the 2013 rebooted game.
The forthcoming action blockbuster will star Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft will focus on the story told in the last two video games in the series - with the most recent being 2015's 'Rise of the Tomb Raider - which have have focused on British daredevil archaeologist at the start of her adventures.
Producer Graham King - who is working on the MGM and Warner Bros. Pictures - said: "Well this is kind of what we call a 'back to the roots story'. This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and I think that's what Alicia found so interesting about it.
"I think the storytelling is really good and I think we've got the right crew and a great director and I think it's going to be really fun making a film like this."
And Vikander is keen to distance the story from Angelina Jolie's 'Tomb Raider' films, the first of which, 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider', was released 15 years ago.
The Oscar-winning actress said: "(I'm) hoping [they] can do something fresh and new. This is quite a different take on it."
Angelina played Lara - who was created by British gaming company Core Design in 1996 - on the big screen in 2001 and then again in 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life' in 2003.
