Netflix has ordered a new 'Sonic the Hedgehog' series.

The streaming giant is set to premiere 'Sonic Prime', a new 3D animated show of the beloved video game character, in 2022 with Sega of America and WildBrain.
The 24-episode series will see the super-fast blue hero take on a new adventure where he finds the fate of a strange new multiverse in his hands.
Netflix hopes the new show will capture the hearts of loyal followers and bring together new fans.
In a statement, Dominique Bazay, Netflix’s director of original animation, said: “Sonic is a beloved character and holds a special place in everyone’s heart including my own, I spent many hours with the Blue Blur as a kid and it’s a privilege to be able to bring this character everyone knows and loves on a brand new adventure with Netflix — one that a generation of loyal fans and brand new fans around the world can enjoy.”
Sonic made his debut back in 1991 in the smash hit Sega Mega Drive game and quickly started to rival Nintendo's Mario character in popularity.
The character has gone on to appear in multiple other games and made his big screen debut in 2020 with Ben Schwartz voicing Sonic and Jim Carrey starring as his arch nemesis Dr. Robotnik and the movie was a box office success. A sequel is now being made.
Meanwhile, 'Sonic' voice actor Roger Craig Smith has left Sega after 10 years voicing the hedgehog but has decided to move on to new projects despite it being an "honour" to work with the video game company.
He wrote on Twitter: "Welp, 10 years was an amazing run. Onward to new zones! Much love to the fans who've been so kind. It's been an honour."
Sega also penned their own tweet that praised the voice actor for his hard work over the years and his "never-ending enthusiasm".
They wrote: "For over 10 years, Roger Craig Smith has been an integral part of the SEGA family. He brought the voice of Sonic to life, and we are forever grateful for his never-ending enthusiasm in helping the community and spreading joy. Thank you, Roger, for all you've done for Sonic."
