A tweet from the Co-President at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, has raised questions among gaming fans as he hints that the Uncharted and The Last of Us developer currently has three games in production.
Naughty Dog are well-known for being behind some of the most beloved titles; as well as Uncharted and The Last of Us series, the company also had a hand in creating games such as some Crash Bandicoot games and the Jak and Daxter series.
Since the release of The Last of Us Part II back in 2020, the team based in Santa Monica has only announced that they are working on the game’s Factions multiplayer suite.
Details regarding this standalone online game is currently being kept secret, but news may hit social media platforms sometime this year (2022).
Reportedly, the team at Naughty Dog has since taken on development duties for the unannounced titles, of which there is supposedly three.
On February 3rd, 2022, Naughty Dog took to Twitter to announce that they are hiring across multiple departments, such as Animation, Game Design, Programming, and much more.
Druckmann quoted Naughty Dog’s tweet a day later (February 4th, 2022), saying “We’re growing!”, and asking developers to join them as they work on X, Y and Z, using emojis that represent keeping quiet. See the tweet from Druckmann below:
These emojis were a simple yet interesting way to announce that the studio has something behind closed doors. A tweet like this, something with little context within itself, has power to spark debates and discussions online about what this could mean.
Of course, the three emojis appear to represent three separate games that Naughty Dog are working on, which has caused excitement among fans.
It may be safe to assume that The Last of Us Factions counts as one project, while the rumours that suggest a full remake for said franchise first entry may count as another.
If these rumours are to be true, then that leaves one emoji unaccounted for; Naughty Dog’s third mystery game is still unclear.
Since 2007, Naughty Dog has released seven games from two different franchises (Uncharted, The Last of Us), so it may be that they are heading in a different direction and seeking a change of scenery.
So, it could be that one or two of the games are related to pre-exciting game series, but the company could also throw their fans a curveball and create three completely new titles; only time will tell...
