The Monster Hunter action RPG series is set to continue with Monster Hunter Rise, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, as confirmed by Capcom with an exciting gameplay trailer at The Game Awards 2020.
Several returning monsters familiar to players who have already enjoyed Monster Hunter experiences are joined by two fresh monsters, as well as a new area for players to explore.
There's even an early look at the mysterious 'Rampage' events that threaten the primary location in the game, Kamura Village.
You can watch the trailer for yourself below:
Further details for the two new monsters have been released.
The trickster Bishaten arrives as a unique threat with its distinctive tail and love for persimmons, which it keeps in its stomach before hurling them at prey. Hunters will be forced to stay on their toes if going up against the beast, which will use multiple tail attacks and powerful spins to come out on top.
Somnacanth meanwhile is an intoxicating aquatic leviathan, that can stun opponents temporarily with sleep powder, leaving them vulnerable to devastating attacks. Certainly not a monster you’ll want to take on without a lot of practice!
Returnees include the scaly leviathan Royal Ludroth and the poisonous birdlike Great Wroggi; it's going to be one of the most exciting rosters of monsters to go up against ever.
Players were also treated to a look at the new Flooded Forest area, which provides the opportunity to explore and battle in an overgrown and water-logged setting. That joins the previously-announced Shrine Ruins hunting grounds as a pair of exciting locations.
As for the 'Rampage' events? Further details are set to be revealed at a later date, but the trailer suggests residents of Kamura Village will join forces with players to build up defences and prepare for a massive battle.
A free demo is to be released for the Nintendo Switch system in January 2021.
The demo will provide hunters their first opportunity to try out the set of new and inventive tools in the game, including the debut of the Wirebug mechanic and Palamute companion, which are both used to track down and defeat monsters in new ways.
Monster Hunter Rise will then enjoy its worldwide launch of the full game on March 26th, 2021.
