Microsoft has promised "something special" at this year's E3 gaming expo.
E3 2016 will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Centre next week and Xbox marketing chief Mike Nichols has hinted that fans will be in for a treat during the company's presentation on Monday (13.06.16).
He said: "We are just days away from E3 2016 and we're excited to share more details on what Xbox fans can expect this year and beyond.
"We expect this to be a special E3."
It was previously claimed that Microsoft could announce two new Xbox game consoles.
Anonymous sources revealed a number of new platforms - including the Xbox mini, Xbox Slim and even Xbox VR - from the games maker will be winging their way to shelves soon.
A game developer who works for a well-known European game studio let slip to PC news site Ars Technica that his company was working on the consoles.
He said: "We are working on an Xbox One VR title for 2017, and the official E3 exhibitor list now has a category for Xbox One Virtual Reality developers".
However, Microsoft doesn't have a VR headset of its own and previously denied any interest in making one after Oculus Rift was released, which is why fans were surprised to hear the company suddenly has an advanced interest in VR and are potentially creating an Xbox device to support the virtual world.
