‘Grand Theft Auto 5’ has exceeded 200 million copies in sales
The incredibly popular game came out almost 11 years ago and has been released on three generations of consoles since its launch. After a consistent winning streak of selling approximately five million copies every three months, the game has now achieved a new milestone of selling over 200 million copies in total.
This sales figure comes from an earnings report from leading publisher Take-Two which highlights its achievement of being one of the best-selling games of all time - a badge of honour that it has held for a considerable amount of time.
It has surpassed the sales figures of other highly popular games such as ‘Wii Sports’ – which has sold over 82 million copies, and ‘PUBG’ which has sold at least 75 million copies.
It has even exceeded the sales of fellow Rockstar behemoth ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ which has sold a relatively low 61 million copies when the two are compared.
The only two games that have sold more copies than ‘GTA 5’ are ‘Minecraft’ which as of last October has sold over 300 million copies, and ‘Tetris’ which, selling in excess of 520 million copies which includes 425 million purchased downloads on mobile and 35 million on the Game Boy, is the best-selling game of all time.
The long-anticipated sequel, ‘GTA 6’ is expected to be released in autumn 2025.
