Gilgamesh will lead Sumeria in 'Sid Meier's Civilization VI'.
2K Games confirmed the news on Monday (26.09.16) that Gilgamesh, the main character in the poem the 'Epic of Gilgamesh', will be the leader in the turn-based strategy video game that will launch on October 21 for Windows PC.
Gilgamesh, king of the city of Uruk, is described as part God and part man, and has several run-ins with various Gods as well as a sage who is said to have survived the Great Flood depicted in the Bible.
Academics have generally concurred that Gilgamesh was a real person, as several individuals referenced in the epic are confirmed to have lived in the region at the time, between 2800 and 2500 BC.
An ancient manuscript, called the Sumerian King List, posits that Gilgamesh ruled over the city of Uruk for 126 years.
The update follows the news that Mahatma Gandhi will lead India in the game.
Gandhi led the Indian independence movement in British-ruled India and was famed for his peaceful, non-violent protests against colonial rule.
He also worked towards bringing Hindus and Muslims together in the country, and suffered five assassination attempts before the sixth was successful in killing him at the age of 78 in 1948.
Gandhi will appear as a character in 2K's new game.
He has led India since the series' inception 25 years ago, and he returns once again to promote his famous philosophy of nonviolence.
