Tripp Vinson are set to produce a live-action comedy based on the popular mobile app game, which features ninjas who slice their way through the likes of pineapples and strawberries, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
J.P Lavin and Chad Damiani - who previously adapted Chuck Sambuchino's 2010 novel 'How To Survive a Garden Gnome Attack' with Robert Zemeckis's ImageMovers and Sony Animation - are writing the 'Fruit Ninja' film script.
It is not yet known what storyline the film will follow but in the 'Fruit Ninja' game, players slices fruit with a blade.
As the fruit is thrown onto the screen, the player attempts to chop the healthy snacks in half.
Extra points are awarded for slicing multiple fruits with one swipe, and players can use additional fingers to make multiple slices simultaneously.
Players must slice all fruit; if three of the foodstuffs are missed, the game ends, but upon reaching scores that are multiples of 100 the player will gain an extra life, unless they have not missed a piece of fruit already. Bombs are occasionally thrown onto the screen to try to trick players into accidentally slicing them.
Vinson Films has partnered with Halfbrick Studios to develop the fruit-themed game, and the blockbuster will see Sam White and Tara Farney serve as executive producers.
'Fruit Ninja' is the second highest-selling iOS game of all time - and has been downloaded more than 1 billion times.
In 2015, Halfbrick Studios released the latest sequel to the series, 'Fruit Ninja Academy: Math Master', aimed at five-to-seven-year-olds.
It's not the only mobile app to receive the big screen treatment - 'The Angry Birds Movie' was released in cinemas on May 13, 2016.
