In today’s world, gaming headsets are a dime a dozen. When it comes to choosing the right one for your style of play however, things can get a little complicated.

There are mega-cheap options, middle-of-the-road purchases and, premium offerings but, when all is said and done, there are shining stars and awful duds in each of those three categories, no matter how much money you’re parting ways with.

Here, we’re taking a look at the EPOS H6 Pro, which is available as both a closed and open acoustic headset, each of which offer a unique experience for gamers.

With an RRP of £149, the headsets are available in 'Sebring black', 'Ghost white' and 'Racing green', compatible with Mac, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch via a wired 3.5mm jack.

The closed acoustic - for the competitive gamer

Those who want to eliminate environmental distractions and background noise from their gaming lives can’t go wrong with the H6 Pro closed acoustic headset, which delivers stunning audio clarity allowing for perfect immersion.

The lightweight headset offers comfort as well as direct volume control, with an easy-to-use headset wheel positioned over the right ear allowing you to turn the volume up and down, reducing and eliminating hearing fatigue after those longer sessions. The only unfortunate thing is that the wheel doesn’t drop all the way down to a complete mute; that’s something you’ll have to do manually.

The open acoustic - for the natural gamer or streamer

If you prefer a cinematic experience, then the open acoustic headset will be the right fit. Rather than blocking out exterior noise, this headset invites some of that in, providing an expansive soundscape and allowing for airflow.

Rather than hearing your voice mixed directly into the game audio through the earcup, you will instead be able to hear your voice naturally which is an advantage for streamers, who may want to monitor their tone when broadcasting live.

When it comes to comfort…

These cans are some of the most comfortable I’ve ever had the pleasure of wearing. I can enjoy hours upon hours of gameplay or, simply chatting with friends on Discord, and they’ll never become heavy or distracting.

Though much of the design is built out of plastic, they still feel like a premium product and, when you compare the price to other high-end headsets on the market, they really do feel like a steal.

How about the microphone?

When using the open acoustic headset in particular, my Xbox gaming buddies told me just how crystal clear my voice sounded; it appeared to be a stellar addition to my console set-up.

As there’s not a wireless option, this quality is likely due to the fact you’ll always be wired into your gaming platform.

All in all...

EPOS continue to hit it out of the park when it comes to their gaming headset offerings. The H6 Pro closed and open acoustic sets will deliver an experience tailored to whatever your style of play may be; and all at an affordable price.
