A new teaser for Elden Ring has dropped ahead of the game's official release this week, giving a closer look at how some of the mechanics in the upcoming action RPG will be used, as well as offering a glimpse of new characters we haven't met yet and, a handful of the stunning locations we'll be visiting when we embark on our Elden Ring adventure.
Developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki in collaboration with Game of Thrones fantasy novelist, George R. R. Martin, who provided material to help shape the setting.
Taking place in the realm of Lands Between, gamers will step into the shoes of a protagonist who at first takes on a linear path, but quickly is allowed the freedom to roam the environments at their feet, with free will.
Focusing on combat and exploration, players must traverse the Lands Between to find all of the Great Runes; shards of the titular Elden Ring which was destroyed some time before the events now taking place.
As a Tarnished who has been exiled, you've been summoned back after the Shattering with the realm at your disposal; finding all of the Great Runes will mean the restoration of the Elden Ring and ultimately, a Tarnished becoming the Elden Lord.
Of course, with such power up for grabs, there are adversaries around every corner. With the high level of difficulty and precision we've seen in Elden Ring's predecessors, such as the Souls series, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, we can expect another challenging offering here.
Having already picked up the Most Anticipated Game award at The Game Awards 2020 and 2021, as well as the Most Wanted Game award at the Golden Joystick Awards 2021, it'd be fair to say that there are high levels of expectation for Elden Ring. Let's hope it can reach that bar, and perhaps even surpass it.
Elden Ring is available for pre-orders now and will officially launch on Friday, February 25th, 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam. The game offers a free upgrade to PS5 for players who purchase the PS4 version and supports Smart Delivery for Xbox, so that players can enjoy on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with a single purchase.
