We're just a few days away from the official launch of Elden Ring and gamers are getting excited to delve into the Lands Between, starting out their journey as a Tarnished and working their way to becoming the Elden Lord.
Of course, that adventure is going to be a challenging one, especially if the focus on combat and exploration that we have seen in previous games of the same ilk are to be echoed here, such as the Souls series, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
The titular Elden Ring has been destroyed in an event known as The Shattering, and as an exiled Tarnished, your only choice is to search for the pieces that have been scattered across the Lands Between. Doing so will bring the power into your hands and ultimately, make you the Elden Lord.
Developed by FromSoftware, the game is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki in partnership with Game of Thrones fantasy novelist, George R. R. Martin, who provided material to help shape the setting found within the game. In such worthy hands, we're sure it's going to be one of the year's must-plays for any gamer worth their salt.
Not much else has been revealed but the anticipation for Elden Ring's release is one that has been apparent for the past couple of years; so much so that it won the Most Anticipated Game Award at both The Game Awards 2020 and 2021. It also won the Most Wanted Game Award at the Golden Joystick Awards 2021.
Whether it will be able to live up to those lofty expectations remains to be seen, but there's only a few days until we'll start getting those first opinions!
Elden Ring is officially released on February 25th, 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam. A free upgrade to PS5 for players who purchase the PS4 version will be available, with a Smart Delivery for Xbox so that those who buy can play on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with a single purchase.
