'Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty' sold more than five million copies in 2023.
The one-and-only expansion to the 2020 action role-playing game may have had some issues, but that didn't stop people from buying and downloading the title.
A post on the game's official X page read: "Over 5 million agents have infiltrated Dogtown!
"Thank you for all your support — and good luck on your mission."
Last year, it was revealed that a 'Cyberpunk 2077' sequel is in the early stages of development.
The head of the CD Projekt studio Adam Badowski confirmed during an investor's presentation that work had started a follow-up.
Badowski confirmed that 'Phantom Liberty' will be the only expansion to 'Cyberpunk 2077' as the focus transferred to the sequel, first announced last year as 'Project Orion'.
He explained: "We decided not to develop any more add-ons for CP2077, but rather to start designing a full sequel to the game under the 'Project Orion' codename.
"This project is on the conceptual design level right now, and it's going to be designed by a team of veterans who were responsible for designing 'Cyberpunk 2077' and designing 'Phantom Liberty'."
Work on the game is taking place at CD Projekt's studios in Vancouver and Boston and Badowski explained that the target for "late in 2024" is to have half of the development team working in the US and the other half in Poland.
CD Projekt has vowed to satisfy diehard fans with big ideas that stretch beyond the sequel.
Chief commercial officer Michal Nowakowski said: "That's true, but that's not the full truth. We want to be popular culture developers."
Nowakowski explained that game development will still be at the "core" of CD Projekt but the studio is keen to expand the 'Cyberpunk 2077' franchise and its revenue streams.
He teased: "We're going to see even more in the time between the 'Phantom Liberty' release and the 'Orion Project' release - the sequel to 'Cyberpunk 2077'."
One of the projects has already been revealed as CD Projekt confirmed that it was working with Anonymous Content on a 'Cyberpunk 2077' live-action project.
