'Brutal Legend' will get a sequel "someday".

The action-adventure video game was first released on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft PC consoles back in 2009, and game designer Tim Schafer - who is the founder Double Fine Productions who produced the game - has confirmed a follow-up is likely to happen, but gave no indication of when.

Speaking during a panel with actor Jack Black - who provided the voice for the game's main character Eddie Riggs - during E3 on Tuesday (13.06.17), a fan in the audience screamed "Brutal Legend 2", to which Tim apologised if his scheduled panel had made people think there would be a sequel announcement.

He added: "Someday we'll make that game."

But Tim admitted a sequel would be "expensive" to make, with the first instalment costing Double Fine $25 million to develop.

In 2014, Tim said that raising that much money - or more - for a sequel "might be tricky."

Meanwhile, in November last year Double Fine were forced to deny rumours of a follow-up game after a fake teaser poster made its way around the internet.

The company clarified on Twitter at the time: "Today in killjoy news: This was a fan site posting, and nothing to do with us. Sorry if you got excited!"

In a second tweet, Double Fine said they had "no plans" for a sequel as they're busy working on 'Psychonauts 2', but insisted they haven't ruled 'Brutal Legend' out completely.

They wrote: "Not saying it's never happening, but we have no plans right now, and will be working on Psychonauts 2 for AGES! (sic)"
