As we inch ever closer to Christmas Day (December 25th), many of us will be spending time off work and hoping to get some quality time in front of our games consoles or PCs! I know that the majority of gamers in my personal circles have got backlogs as far as the eye can see!
Still, the video game industry shows no sign of slowing down. Quality content is continuously being pumped out and, in this strange new world, is serving as a lifeline for many people who simply need something to do, to take their mind off the real-world issues facing them.
With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at all of the upcoming video game releases in December 2020, picking out the five that we are most excited about playing!
Immortals Fenyx Rising, released December 3rd 2020 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and Stadia
Formerly known as Gods & Monsters before being renamed to Immortals Fenyx Rising, this brand new Ubisoft property was inspired by the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which recently ventured to ancient Greece in the game subtitled Odyssey.
Now, players will be tasked with saving the Greek Gods and bringing the most powerful Titan of all, Typhon down, in their pursuit for the destruction of the known world. They’ll step into the shoes of the titular Fenyx, a winged demigod who is the only one able to take Typhon down and stop a dark curse from enveloping the mythological land forevermore.
Call of the Sea, released December 8th 2020 on PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
Set in the 1930s South Pacific, Call of the Sea hasn't quite been given the same amount of attention as other video game releases on our list. Those who miss out may be shooting themselves in the foot however, as it looks like one of the most stunning otherworldy adventures to ever be released.
On the hunt for a lost expedition - which just so happens to include your character’s husband - players will be faced with solving puzzles along the way in a journey that will test their logic and intellect throughout a lush island paradise.
Cyberpunk 2077, released December 10th 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Stadia (next-gen updates planned for 2021 release)
It’s been a long time coming, but Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely be released in the second week of December! After many delays, physical copies have already leaked out into the wild, but the patched, final version will only be available from December 10th.
Gamers will take control of a mercenary known simply as V throughout the game, who will be fully-customisable from their facial features, to body type and modifications, as well as their voice, clothing and backstory. They'll be able to travel through American megacity Night City in the Free State of North California, with six regions - each with their own unique traits and inhabitants - available to visit.
With relationships to explore - both friendly and romantic - as well as a plethora of exciting missions and things to do, there are going to be countless hours pumped into Cyberpunk by players all across the globe. We can’t wait to dive in.
Haven, released December 10th 2020, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
Can love conquer all? That's the question posed in upcoming action title Haven.
Taking on the role of two lovers who are hoping to settle in a strange and unknown world, you'll be tasked with gliding through the mysterious landscape, fighting against those trying to tear them apart.
A story all about rebellion, independence and of course, love. This could be a real critical darling, so make sure you’re a part of the hype train!
GTA Online: The Cayo Perico Heist, released December 15th 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (next-gen updates planned for 2021 release)
Though it’s been seven years since it was first released, Rockstar Games are still putting their efforts into making GTA Online an experience that players won’t ever want to leave behind. That continues once more this coming December, with the release of the new Cayo Perico Heist.
Set in a completely new location, players will be able to go it alone for the first time in the game’s heist history, or of course join up with up to three other players, to infiltrate a maximum security private island, bagging paintings, drug money and more in the pursuit of riches. There’s even a submarine.
Count us in!
