With it being over a year since the coronavirus pandemic took the world in a firm grip and refused to let up, many of us have been looking for new forms of entertainment primarily online, that we can enjoy and experience with our friends and loved ones.
One of our favourite things to do with mates before we had even heard of the disease ‘Covid-19’, was to hit an escape room and see if we were able to break out of whatever fictional, yet often realistic scenario, we had been dumped in.
Of course right now, getting together to do a real-world escape room is impossible, due to the health and safety concerns! So, when we saw what those at Agent Venture were promising with their “immersive online spy game”, we couldn’t wait to give it a try…
Setting aside an hour with three friends (groups can be made up of four or five people), we each chose our roles ahead of our pre-determined time slot and enjoyed what will undoubtedly be one of my most memorable lockdown moments.
Strangely enough, we each took the quiz that was emailed to us a few days before our game took place and were each given a different role to take on. I was the Navigator, looking after maps and guiding Agent Venture around various locations, whilst each of my friends filled the spots of Hacker (tackling code-breaking and the like via Google Docs); Communicator (the one who had to blag their way; and Researcher (tasked with picking out important information from lengthy documents).
As is usually the case with escape rooms, we had a game master but, what’s unique here is that they stick with you throughout the majority of your play. Not only do they drop a hint as and when they think you may need it, but they proved their worth as an incredible voice actor, playing each of the characters we would come across in our journey.
Major props to the awesome Gracie who headed up our session - she was fantastic!
Genuinely enveloped throughout the entire story and intent on keeping our Agent Venture safe, we all took to our roles like ducks to water, in one of the most immersive experiences I’ve ever had with a game of this type.
Saying much more would give too much away, but just make sure that you've got your wits about you through the entire hour, or you could mess EVERYTHING up! Nobody wants their friends fuming at them! Plus, if you do well then there are another two unique missions your squad could take on in the future...
Agent Venture completely hit all of our expectations out of the park. A massive triumph and something anybody who enjoys these sorts of party games with friends should check out.
