The Fisherman's Retreat is not only the place to visit for a delicious lunch or dinner - it's the best place in the North West for whisky tasting.
The whisky in the cask was purchased in 2007 by The Fisherman’s Retreat. It was distilled in the same year at Bruichladdich Distillery on the Isle of Islay and filled into an ex bourbon cask.
After resting in Bruichladdich’s warehouse on the shores of Loch Indaal for the past 5 years the decision was made to bring the cask down to the Fisherman’s and transfer the whisky into this ex fortified wine cask which is from the Yalumba winery in the Barossa valley, south Australia.
Hervey, the owner of the Fisherman's Retreat could barely contain his excitement as he told me of the whisky already changing colour and maturing.
He expects it will be ready by April, and something tells me he is counting down the days.
The whisky will be on sale to the public and customers will be able to fill bottles straight from the cask.
Not only this though, they have a huge selection of other whiskys that you can buy there too.
