Pork and Sage Burger

Pork and Sage Burger

Ingredients:

  • 500g lean pork mince
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small apple, cored and grated
  • 1 small egg, beaten
  • 40g breadcrumbs (approximately 1 slice)
  • 1 tbsp. chopped fresh sage or 1 tsp. dried sage
  • Salt & pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 large apple
  • 8 Applewood® slices
  • 8 soft burger buns

Method:

  1. In a bowl combine the pork mince, onion, breadcrumbs, and sage and season well.
  2. Over the sink, squeeze the juice from the grated apple, then add to the bowl.
  3. Using a fork, mix the ingredients together before adding the beaten egg.
  4. When thoroughly combined divide into 8 burgers, cover and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Core and slice the large apple into 8 even rings.
  6. Heat the griddle and chargrill the apple rings until softened.
  7. Heat the oil in a large pan and fry the burgers until cooked thoroughly.
  8. Place the burger in the bun, top with cheese and the warm apple ring to serve.

For a healthy appleslaw make a dressing by combining fat free Greek yoghurt and lemon juice, then season to taste. Mix with finely shredded white cabbage, thinly sliced apple, grated carrot and sliced spring onions.
