Valentine’s Day used to be the most romantic day of the year with couples choosing to spend the time celebrating together, just the two of them.
Now, the tide is changing and people prefer to spend Valentine’s Day with friends. A massive two thirds of singletons are going to be spending the day with friends.
A further 37 per cent will be pampering themselves and 32 per cent will be dining on decadent food.
Ocado also found that 45 per cent of singles are relieved to be single on Valentine’s Day, saying having a partner wouldn’t improve their Valentine’s Day.
It appears that rather than have the traditional romantic meal, party food is now the way to go with Ocado seeing a 165 per cent increase in its party food sales.
To cater for this new Valentine’s market, Ocado have released their new Table for You (ocado.com/tableforyou) range.
It includes party food such as dips, nibbles and champagne for those who like to celebrate big on Valentine’s Day.
The range also caters for those who like to keep it small, as Ocado found that easy to cook meals for one sales were up by 39 per cent.
For those who like to celebrate solo and pamper themselves they can buy luxury meals for one as well as pampering treats such as bath bombs.
Jason Gissing, Ocado Co-Founder said, “Our research has shown that nearly a third of people believe brands should cater more for singles on Valentine’s Day and we’ve responded to this change in customer demand by introducing the world’s first Table For You aisle alongside our more traditional Valentine’s shop.
“From snacks and dips to champagne, indulgent bath treats and luxury meals for one, customers can order the ultimate singles party or pampering package in just a few clicks at ocado.com and have it delivered straight to their kitchen table whenever they like. Just call us cupid!”
