The Nutribullet is not just a gadget- it's a lifestyle choice. Where with many appliances you get an instruction booklet and some recipes to try- this guides you from bad to good eating habits, with a lengthy booklet- stage by stage to get to a new and healthier you.
I was sceptical about the Nutribullet as I have a blender and assumed that it might suffer from some of the same shortcomings that it has such as the ingredients clumping at the bottom- one of my biggest bugbears.
Not with the Nutribullet- the cyclonic section ensures that there is none of the fuss to scraping out compacted food at the bottom. Instead it pushes everything up rather than just spinning it around at a low level, so every inch of your soup/ shake is broken down to tiny fragments.
I make soups mostly and was eager to find out how it would tackle one of the chunkier varieties- Broccoli. In my existing blender it comes out smooth but still contains reduced heads of broccoli which can be quite off-putting for some. With the Nutribullet, its entirely smooth- restaurant quality soup.
Obviously, soup takes a little longer than the shakes do, as you have to wait for it to cool (as we found out after my partner got splattered with hot broccoli bits as a result of being too impatient!). With such -pleasing results it's worth, making a big pan of soup and blending it one bowl at a time, or plastic tub so you can freeze it for later.
Another benefit is that if you are one of the shoe couples who comes in every night and asks each other 'what are we going to have for tea?'- this give you new possibilities if you have fallen into a meal rut. It also makes for better planning when you are shopping as you can better predict what you will need rather than surrendering to unhealthy impulse buys.
As a fan of dishwasher safe products- I was pleased to find out that all of the cups are dishwasher safe on the top rack, so this gadget could not be any easier to use and maintain.
I don't often make myself a smoothie, however with the help of the 50/50 rule, smoothies have never been easier to create. Just 50% greens- such as kale and 50% fruit of any variety- preferably three (with a banana or avocado) for that desired creamy flavour.
I popped in what we had in our fridge- some kale, some strawberries, a banana, an orange and some almonds. Although the finished product didn't look overly appealing as the kale gave it a deep green colour- it was delicious. Even my partner who won't go near fruit unless it's an orange was very impressed with the outcome.
I had no idea that there was so much surrounding the product and after reading the pamphlet at bedtime- I was inspired to try out the challenge. All it takes is one shake per day for breakfast or as a snack to begin with. As many plans require you to ditch everything straight away, this eases you into to healthy eating so you don't feel denied.
Then as you begin to feel better you can move onto stage two and three.
As a new vegetarian, this is ideal for me and my fellow non meat eaters. All of the recipes in the booklet are vegetarian suitable- from soups and shakes to wraps. If you want to add meat to the latter- you can- but they are all initially plant based. If you are a meat eater, the information also advises you on what meat is the best to eat and how much of it to put with your accompaniments.
Rather than popping A-Z vitamin pills or looking for more processed ways to get your five a day, this is a really easy way to do it naturally- and get the best from all of the ingredients you are using.
I did want a Nutribullet for Christmas just to make soups, however now I am more educated about the product I feel that I can enjoy it for its other uses too.
I have been looking for new ways to incorporate seeds and nuts into by diet since becoming a vegetarian, so this is a great way to include more protein and calcium into my diet, which as every vegetarian will know is an uphill climb.
Overall, I can't speak highly enough of the Nutribullet. I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to review it and feel that this is going to be a new me- someone who has control over their diet and more energy- watch this space.
