Loch Fyne Seafood and Grill is nestled in the heart of Alderley Edge, Cheshire and offers both a restaurant and take away service. Originating from Loch Fyne in Scotland, the food was so good that there are 41 branches throughout the UK now.
The restaurant itself was large and spacious; the walls were decked with light stained wood, making the whole entrance room airy and inviting.
We were greeted by Keira who showed us to our table and our waitress was Lydie for the night.
Lydie offered us bread and olives while we waited, which we politely declined and on reflection I am glad we did for the portions are very generous. Lydie did recommend the Minted Pea Risotto with a soft poached egg; however we were keen to try something more traditional.
For starters we enjoyed Chilli and Garlic Prawns- pan friend in lemon oil with granary bread and Tempura battered Squid- with chilli Jam.
The squid was light and complimented beautifully by the jam- I was grateful that this was not overly spicy, just enough of a kick to give welcome zing to the fresh fish.
The prawns and garlic were again not overly spicy and the bread ensured all the delicious oil did not go to waste.
For our main course we both had the Fish and Chips- in a traditional or tempura batter with mushy peas, tartre sauce and twice cooked British chips or French Fries. Choose line caught haddock or line caught cod.
My partner had the haddock and I had the cod so we could sample one each. The mushy peas, I have to say, were the best I have ever tasted- with a hint of mint- they were simply perfect. The freshness of the fish was very apparent when eating it, sourced straight from the Loch itself.
As mentioned before, if you are dining here, do not snack before at home- as the meals are very good value for money for what you get- in fact we were both defeated by our main course despite both having healthy appetites.
After a rest- for desert we had the Warm Pear Frangipane Tart with cream anglaise and the Crème Brule- with shortbread- which just melted in the mouth- all washed down with a bottle of Speyside Glenlivet still mineral water.
Lydie was very accommodating when I asked for mine to be served differently from the way it appeared on the menu.
I overhead Lydies’ conversations with other diners and she had excellent skills as a host. She was enthusiastic and prompt and we could not fault her service in any way. The Loch Fyne Seafood and Grill's website does say that it strives to 'do everything to the best standard possible' and Lydie was an example of the high standard that it aims for in its establishments.
The take out service is open on Mondays and Tuesdays, so if you feel like taking the restaurant experience home you can do so.
There was seating outside of the restaurant as well so if it's a nice day, there is always the opportunity to eat your fish and chips as they were intended- in the great outdoors!
During the summer holidays, children eat free too- so if you are booking a table it’s definitely worth enquiring if your child is eligible.
Overall, our experience of the Loch Fyne Seafood and Grill, Alderley Edge was unforgettable and we are both keen to bring our parents for a meal here in future, we were so impressed.
The staff are poised and friendly and offer their thoughts on the menu if you are unsure of what to order. The building itself from the outside is very striking and to be honest I was a little intimidated when walking in, but as soon as we were greeted by Keira, we felt welcome straight away.
Thanks to Keira, Lydie and all the staff who made our visit so comfortable.
