While most people will make a conscious effort to make sure the meals they eat are at least relatively healthy, you might not even notice your snacking habits, as we mostly snack while we work.
Unhealthy eating doesn't just increase the risk of heart disease, or obesity, it's also been shown to have a link to various types of cancer too. According to Cancer Research UK, breast cancer and stomach cancer are directly related to diet, so it's super important to get sloppy snacking habits in check.
Urban Fruit, the UK's leading dried fruit brand, has created a new addition to its range of healthy snacks. The company has become the first to offer gently baked raspberries in the UK, a fruit that is full of Vitamin C and minerals, not to mention tasty.
Urban Fruit’s founder Hayley Gait-Golding said: "We are mad about fruit here and keen to re-invigorate the dried fruit market with some new and exciting fruits, so a seasonal line is key. We want to make healthy snacking inviting and we’re really excited to be the first to market with gently baked Raspberry and think it is a great addition to the range."
The dried fruit is great for snacking on the go, but if your kids get hungry at home between mealtimes, you can easily whip up a quick and healthy fruit salad, and add some yoghurt on the side. Another healthy option is to cut up carrots into small sticks, and serve them for dipping into cream cheese.
Swap your soft drinks for water, or healthy smoothies. If you blend fruit until it's really smooth, you won't even notice what you're drinking is good for you! Remember, make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day - if you're thirsty, it can often make you more hungry too.
If you or your children are looking for something less fruit and veg fixated, healthy popcorn is a perfect choice. Buy some non-buttered popcorn kernels from a health food shop, and pop them up in a pan. You can keep them healthy by ditching the sugar or salt, and instead going for Parmesan cheese, or cinnamon sugar.
Take a handful of a healthy cereal in a bag to work, and when you get hungry, snack on that instead of going for crisps.
If you're not sure what to snack on, remember that the best thing to go for is something that's natural, and doesn't have loads of additives. The Urban Fruit range is one of the only dried fruit that doesn't contain any added extra stuff, so you know they're good for you. Try a few things to find something you enjoy, after all, snacking is supposed to be a reward, and you don't have to change this just because you're eating healthier.
