Traditional roast dinner is top meal for Brits

New research has revealed that turkey roast dinners rule the roost, as over 80 percent of Brits said they preferred the traditional meal over other more modern meal options.

65 percent of Brits surveyed even said they would have a roast seven nights a week, perhaps due to tradition and patriotic spirits running high in this Olympic and Jubilee year.

Beef came out on top as the number one meat for roasts, and carrots were voted the nation's favourite vegetable. A huge 90 percent of those polled agreed that gravy was essential to their roast dinner, and half of respondents named apple sauce as their 'must have' condiment.

However, the research, which was conducted by Rangemaster and Knorr Gravy, also found that Britons take certain liberties with the convention of the roast dinner, with three in ten people aged 18-24 saying they also serve onion rings with their meal. One in ten even admitted to adding curry sauce to their roast.

Knorr is celebrating the heralded national treasure of the British roast dinner by launching the first ever British Roast Dinner Week, which is currently on (1.10.12 - 7.10.12).

Sarah Branagan, Knorr category manager for sauces, said: “We want to give the roast dinner the recognition it deserves, especially in a year when we’re celebrating all things British.”
