Hello, everyone!
I hope everyone is settling well in January, it is the month of detox, eating healthy and getting to the gym. I couldn't believe it when I went to the gym this week, as a regular who goes about four times a week I couldn't believe all the new faces in my regular classes! It is a great way to start the year, like anything just try and carry on, don't give up after January, you will feel so much better.
January is a great month and I think one of the greatest things to do is to detox, fill your body with good healthy homemade food, cut down or cut out the alcohol completely, you will make a huge difference to your body and you will feel good too. Working out at the gym is great when detoxing as it allows all those toxins to start running out of the body.
A great product to help you out with detoxing is soup from a company call Soupologie. Soupologie launched late last year with the UK's first raw soup, which are gluten free, dairy free, and vegan. They are ready to eat, living-food soups, which are nutritional powerhouses of enzymes, vitamins and minerals. Importantly, the soups contain all the fibrous flesh, seeds, rind and pulp, which are kept as part of the blending process, leaving all the nutrients and fibre intact. Some of them are a required taste and I think it's a case of trying them all and seeing what works best for you in terms of flavours. My favourite is the strawberry, lucuma and tarragon soup. Yes, that is right, give it a try and get your detox into full action.
Restaurant Hangout of the Week
We met some friends on our way to Yorkshire in Northampton, which was perfect because it broke up our journey and meant that we could have a good meal to then carry on the rest of our long journey. We went to a restaurant our friends wanted to try called Haycock and Tailbar and when we arrived we couldn't find it, it was hidden between two shops and isn't well signed but they is how the restaurant is, very discreet and when you arrive you have to knock on the door to be let in which was a nice touch.
We got stuck into the great non-alcoholic cocktail list which we really enjoyed as you don't usually get many choices when you are out. The menu was interesting but fun; they have things like camel con carne, kangaroo and alligator steaks! We all stuck safe with a fillet of beef which came on hot stones so you cook it yourself and served with potatoes with some lovely coleslaw. There were lots of gluten free options including Gnocchi if they have it in stock, which is also the vegetarian option.
The pudding options were interesting, nothing for the gluten free diet unless you want to try grasshoppers, crickets or tarantula in a tin...I am not kidding these are serious options and apparently tried by many, we decided to give them a miss!
Top Tip of the Week
If you are detoxing through January but struggle with your sweet craving then try to satisfy it in other ways than just reaching for a chocolate bar. Check out my wonderful recipe for raw, vegan chocolate, it has no refined sugar and is also gluten free. http://blog.biteappy.com/blog/vegan-raw-chocolate/
