The Royal Family has been beaten by their TV namesakes in a race to be crowned the nation’s favourite family dinner guests.
A nationwide poll to discover Britain’s favourite celebrity family to invite round for dinner saw Jim Royle and his brood come out on top and the Queen and the rest of the Royals in second place.
A fifth of people said they would most like to sit down with the stars of the hit BBC comedy series The Royle Family, starring funnyman Ricky Tomlinson and comic writer Caroline Ahern.
While in this diamond jubilee year, 15 per cent of respondents voted the Windsors their number one famous family to invite round for food.
In third place were the Beckhams, with 14 per cent of people insisting they would love to have David, Victoria and their four children, Brooklyn, 13, Romeo, nine, Cruz, seven, and eight-month old Harper Seven, over to their house for dinner.
However the Rooney clan, Wayne, Coleen and two-year-old son Kai, were voted the least favourite guests with just three per cent of people choosing to invite them, followed by the Prime Minister David Cameron and his family with just four per cent of the vote.
The poll was commissioned by frozen food giant Dalepak and they surveyed 2,000 adults across the UK.
Anne Claypole, marketing manager Dalepak, said: “The Queen may have kicked off her diamond jubilee celebrations already but they won’t be celebrating in Buckingham Palace when news reaches them that telly slobs The Royle Family have beaten them in a new popularity contest.
“We can only presume they topped the poll ahead of the Queen and her family because people would worry what the hell to cook for the real Royals.
“And they know that Jim Royle will eat anything and they’d be guaranteed a good laugh too.
“Dinner is the perfect time for families to sit down together and enjoy each other’s company, throw in an extra helping of celebrity and it is sure to go down a treat.”
