The study, carried out by Asda, found that shoppers have become a lot more varied in their tea drinking habits, as more than half of those polled said they had at least three different types of tea in their cupboards.
The supermarket found that women particularly have embraced fruit teas, with six in ten saying they drink one at least once a day. This is likely due to the health benefits that fruit teas can bring, as they are naturally caffeine-free, and can be a refreshing alternative to traditional black tea.
The increasing trend towards less well-known teas can also be contributed to celebrity endorsement, as Victoria Beckham and Miranda Kerr are both said to be fans of an alternative cuppa, with Victoria favouring peppermint tea and Miranda opting for a cup of green tea.
Paula Higby from Asda’s tea team said: “Fruit tea is back from obscuri-tea! We Brits love a good cuppa, whether you opt for a traditional Builders, Earl Grey, green tea or pomegranate, drinking a cup of hot tea remains one of our favourite pastimes.”
