Pomegranate now known to keep you calm

For those of us who feel stressed by the slightest things, such as forgetting to bring the washing in or missing your train; relax!

A new stress-buster has been discovered by Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh and it doesnt involve medication or alcohol.

Pomegranates have been cited as one of the most effective ways to forget your worries and help calm you after a stressful day.

The research showed pomegranate juice can reduce your levels of cortisol, the stress hormone in saliva and reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Dr Emad Al-Dujaili, who lead the study, revealed: "On the basis of these findings, there is a justified argument for busy workers to drink pomegranate juice to help alleviate chronic stress and maintain good health."

60 of his volunteers had more energy and were significantly less stressed after having the drink.

On top of reducing stress levels, pomegranates lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk on Alzheimers and arthiritis.
