We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but new research has revealed that a third of us skip it entirely.
60 percent of those surveyed said they think they are in too much of a rush in the mornings to eat breakfast, and almost a third of Brits who do eat it do so while on the move: whilst commuting or on the school run.
Eating whilst multi-tasking is bad for digestion, and means that our minds do not recognise that we have eaten, so we get hungrier sooner.
Brits also have a problem with scheduling meal times, as 70 percent of respondents said they never have the time to sit down together at breakfast, with 30 percent even admitting to their family having three different breakfast times.
The research, commissioned by electronics company Philips, also found the top ten cities for breakfast eating, with Birmingham coming out on top with almost three quarters of inhabitants making time for the meal.
Tina Withington from Philips, who commissioned the survey says, “We are a nation of breakfast skippers and family time in the morning seems to have disappeared altogether but a quick cup of tea and slice of toast might be more achievable than people realise. This can take as little as eight minutes and thirty seconds to make.”
This claim was made after Philips tested its new breakfast collection, and found that the average time to make tea and toast with it was eight and a half minutes. However, this doesn't allow for the time it takes people to eat breakfast.
