From January, workers at KFC will be able to apply to study a BA in business management through the firm.
KFC say their managers will be able to earn up to £68,000 a year including bonuses, while they study the degree.
And when they graduate, they could become an area manager, or work for the chain’s head office.
The managing director for KFC UK, Martin Shuker, said it will give the company ‘an opportunity to reward some of our best performers who never had the chance to go to university when they were younger’.
Potential students will be expected to submit their coursework via computers in the restaurants’ staff rooms, and they will also have to study for between 12 and 14 days each year at De Montfort University in Leicester.
It may not be the most glamorous of jobs, but it could potentially be a real alternative for some people, as university fees will climb to £9,000 a year from this autumn.
